As a travel content creator, I’m always on the lookout for unique and off-the-beaten-path experiences to share with my audience. That’s how I found out about Crete’s famous pink beach (Elafonisi) a picturesque destination that looks like something out of a dream.
But my friend and I quickly learned that getting to this stunning beach is easier said than done. We boarded the wrong bus and ended up on a harrowing two-hour journey on narrow roads that felt like they were hanging off the edge of a cliff.
As the bus climbed higher and higher up the winding roads, we felt like we were never going to reach our destination. Our fear turned to terror as the bus rounded yet another steep curve, and we realized that we were nowhere near the pink beach we had set out to find.
After what felt like an eternity, the bus finally pulled up to a rocky cove that was a far cry from the beautiful pink sands we had imagined. We were tired, scared, and disappointed, but we had to stay at the beach for another three hours before the bus came back to take us on the same death-defying journey.
Despite the fear and anxiety we experienced on that day, I look back on it now as an adventure that tested our limits and showed us the power of perseverance. And if you’re ever in Crete and thinking of visiting the famous pink beach, just make sure you board the right bus!
