Review – Poema del Mar Aquarium, Gran Canaria

Booking.com

During my trip to Gran Canaria, one of the highlights of my visit was a day spent at Poema del Mar, an incredible aquarium located in Las Palmas. Known as one of the most impressive aquariums in Europe, it offers a unique opportunity to explore marine life from around the world in a beautifully designed space that feels like stepping into an underwater dream.

From the moment I entered, I was captivated by the modern design and the immersive exhibits. The aquarium is divided into three main zones: Jungle, Reef, and Deep Ocean, each showcasing a different type of ecosystem.

The Jungle Experience

The journey began in the Jungle area, which replicates tropical rainforests from around the globe. The lush greenery, cascading waterfalls, and exotic creatures made it feel like I was walking through a living, breathing jungle.

Next, I entered the Reef zone, a vibrant display of coral reefs teeming with life. The colourful fish, anemones, and sea creatures were mesmerizing. It was fascinating to watch them up close through the massive viewing panels. The attention to detail in recreating these delicate ecosystems was impressive, and I found myself learning so much about how coral reefs play a vital role in our planet’s health.

The Deep Ocean Wonder

The highlight of Poema del Mar is undoubtedly the Deep Ocean exhibit, featuring one of the largest curved viewing windows in the world. Standing in front of this enormous tank filled with sharks, rays, and other deep-sea creatures was a humbling and awe-inspiring experience. Watching these magnificent animals glide gracefully through the water made me feel connected to the vast, mysterious world beneath the waves.

A Place for Everyone

What sets Poema del Mar apart is its commitment to conservation and education. Throughout my visit, I noticed informative displays highlighting the importance of preserving marine life and ecosystems. It’s a great place for families, couples, and solo travelers alike, offering a mix of entertainment and learning.

Practical Tips for Visiting
